An evening of literature and conversation with Carmen Maria Machado.

Maven provided live streaming services for the University of Calgary’s Distinguished Writers Program, featuring an evening with author Carmen Maria Machado at The GRAND in Calgary. The program combined a keynote lecture and an “in-conversation” session, broadcast live through the University’s Zoom Webinar platform to a national audience. The intimate setting of the Flanagan Theatre called for a production approach that stayed unobtrusive for the in-room audience while delivering a polished broadcast recording and livestream.
A two-person Maven crew — a technical director and camera operator — managed the production, with audio handled by the venue. Two 4K broadcast cameras ran through the GEMINI production core, with signal feeds integrated into the venue’s projector for the in-room display alongside pre-show content, video playback, and presentations. Following the event, Maven delivered a locally recorded program file, giving the University a high-quality digital archive of the evening.
